CMC Ultimate Race Series
The CMC Ultimate Race Series is designed for athletes of all levels and includes the following Race Assaults: Mountain, Urban, Sprint, Beach and Desert. On race day, Combiners begin in the PIT, a revolutionary CMC-exclusive obstacle, before transitioning into the Run, CMC’s world-renowned, 3 to 7 mile military-inspired obstacle course race.
The PIT + The Run = The Race
The PIT is our innovative first obstacle and revolutionary secret weapon, testing your endurance before you even get to the Starting Line. Developed by the CMC team, the PIT is a 7-minute AMRAP (As Many Repetitions As Possible) workout consisting of 3 basic, functional fitness movements: Kettle Bell Swings, Box Jump Burpees, and Push Presses. We call it the Great Equalizer because it levels the playing field between power athletes and endurance runners to determine the Ultimate Overall Athlete. There are three PIT options: Standard Ops (full weights), Scaled Ops (modified weights), and Swift Ops (bypass The PIT). Learn more by clicking on the ‘ENDURE THE PIT’ tab above. Remember, everyone is capable of enduring the PIT!
With limited time to transition from the PIT to the Run, you’ll begin CMC’s 3 to 7 mile world-renowned obstacle course race with adrenaline already pumping. Designed in conjunction with leading strength and conditioning coaches from the CrossFit Community, United States Armed Forces and USA Triathalon Race Directors, we pride ourselves on building the most professional, organized, and challenging obstacle course races in the world.
Challenging For Every Skill Level
Starting with the Brooklyn Race in 2013, we will introduce two new options to the PIT, for a total of three PIT options. Choose Your Challenge to best meet your skill level!
Combiners fear no terrain.
The CMC Ultimate Race Series will test you on every landscape imaginable: Beach, Mountain, Urban, Sprint and Desert, to name a few. We’ve got some of the best locations on Earth, but we’re happy to consider suggestions for future CMC Ultimate Race Series locations. Email us at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
You were born to CMC!
The beauty of CMC’s Ultimate Race Series is that you, the Combiner, can determine the degree of difficulty. From legendary weathered warriors looking to compete on the ultimate fitness battlefield, to first-time athletes seeking a weekend challenge, you have the freedom to set your own pace and intensity in both the PIT and the Run. Regardless of your fitness background, you were born to CMC!
We Race to HONOR our HEROES.
CMC is dedicated to honoring and supporting American military personnel and first responders through our races and our inspiring community of Combiners. By partnering with incredible organizations like 31 Heroes, the Wounded Warrior Project, Operation Homefront and Heroes of Tomorrow, we vow to make a difference and lend a hand to the real heroes: military personnel and first responders. Visit our Charities page for more information on how CMC supports the military and first responders.

FASTER THAN A LIFTER? STRONGER THAN A RUNNER? PROVE IT!
Before you cross that Starting Line, you’ll face the DJ-spinning atmosphere in the exhilarating obstacle we call the PIT. Developed by the CMC team and exclusively available at CMC Ultimate Races, the PIT is a 7-minute AMRAP format workout consisting of 7 reps each of 3 basic, functional fitness movements: kettle bell swings, box jump burpees, and push presses. You must complete each movement 7 times before moving on to the next. These universal movements are appropriate for all athletes, regardless of fitness level.
When our legendary NYC DJ starts spinning your favorite pump-up jams, and you look around at the inspiring Combiners prepared to give it ALL in the PIT, with the American flag flying above you, spectators and photographers all around, you’ll understand.

For Standard and Scaled Ops Racers, once you enter the PIT, you’ll see 30-40 stations set up. At each station, you’ll have a mat, a box, a kettlebell, a bar and a CMC-qualified Judge. Each movement must be performed in full in order to earn repetitions (reps), and our Judges are responsible for counting your reps and cheering you on!.

Mud washes off, wounds heal, and sore muscles eventually recover, but the pride that comes from conquering a Civilian Military Combine Race will never fade. Think you’re ready to take on 3 to 7 miles of our world-renowned, military-inspired obstacle course?
“The event includes a six-mile mud run with all manner of Herculean military obstacles.” –Vogue Magazine, April 2013
The CMC Ultimate Race Series will test you on various terrains across all regions of the country. Our military-inspired obstacles are designed in conjunction with leading strength and conditioning coaches from the CrossFit Community, United States Armed Forces and USA Triathlon Race Directors. We pride ourselves on building the most professional, organized, and challenging obstacle course races in the world.
For Standard Ops and Scaled Ops racers, you’ll begin the race at an energy-deficit, having only a few minutes after rocking the PIT to get to the starting line. Because you start the run with a limited number of your comrades from the PIT, you’re never herded to the starting line with hundreds of other people, as is common in other races. It’s just you and your team, conquering the course!
Expect to climb, jump, run, get muddy and be sore the next day. But also expect to cross that finish line with the unrivaled sense of pride and accomplishment that only comes from conquering CMC!
Run when you can, walk when you have to, crawl when you must, but NEVER give up!
Inspire your teammates, unleash your inner BEAST, and prepare for FUN as you conquer the Ultimate Race Experience, CMC!!!
- Overall scores will be based off of a curved 200 point system.
- The highest score in each portion of the competition will set the standard for the day that
all competitors will be judged against.
- The PIT
The competitor with the highest number of reps will be awarded the top score of 100 points. The competitor with the lowest number of reps will be awarded 0 points. Everyone else is graded along a curve between the two scores. For example, if the most PIT Reps was 178 and least PIT Reps were 55. The spread between high and low is 123 (178-55). A competitor that did 109 reps in the PIT would receive a 44 since (((109-55)*100)/123) is about 43 (and we rounded up).
The competitor with the fastest run time will be awarded the top score of 100 points. The competitor with the slowest run time will be awarded 0 points. Everyone else is graded along a curve between the two scores.
- Scoring is scaled to performance
Every performance is relative to the best performance in that event.
- In the event of a tie, PIT reps will be used as a tie-breaker.
- Competitors are only eligible for awards in a single class (Open, Master, Military, First Responder) per event. Individuals can win team awards and special
category awards in addition to individual awards.
- In the event that a competitor wins in multiple classes, they will be awarded the highest award they are eligible for, unless they specifically request one.
